Halloween

On the night before Halloween, Jas and I went to see Wicked with my parents. It was awesome!

Pax playing in the Halloween candy. We only had one trick-or-treater so we had tons of candy left over!
Moooo!

8 months and counting!

I can't believe our little Pax is 8 months old. I feel like he's growing up and learning new things on a weekly sometimes daily basis. It's very bittersweet. A part of me loves seeing him change and develop and another part of me wants time to stand still and for him to stay my baby forever.
Sitting up like a champ. He's been doing this for awhile and it was actually a very welcome change for both of us. It's made him much more willing to entertain himself (for brief periods of time!).
When I was putting Pax in his carseat a couple weeks ago, his arm got caught like this and it totally made me laugh as if he was just kickin it in his chair.
Over the past few months, Pax has definitely become a belly sleeper. We always lay him down on his back but within seconds he rolls over onto his tummy and stays in that position until morning. He rolls around fine so we don't worry too much about it.

Already counting down the days till he can get his learner's permit.

Pax attempting to feed himself.
His first tooth!
Bundling up for one of the first snow storms of the year.
Pulling himself up. As of right now, Pax can get himself up onto all fours but so far no crawling. I have a feeling he's going to crawl for just a short time and then move right onto walking since his legs are strong and he doesn't have a lot of weight to support. We'll see!

Homemade Baby Food

I finally did something this week that I've been wanting to do ever since Pax started eating solids: try making my own baby food. Peas were one of the first foods he actually liked so I decided to start with those.
I bought a bag of frozen peas, steamed them according to the package instructions, pureed them in a food processor along with some of the cooking liquid until they were baby food consistency and then poured the mixture into two ice cube trays.
After they were frozen, I put the pea ice cubes into a ziploc bag and now I have a whole bag full of frozen peas for whenever Pax is in the mood for something green.
I was worried that maybe Pax wouldn't like the flavor or consistency of homemade baby food (it was still somewhat chunky even with lots of processing) so here was the true test...

Judging by that smile I think the peas were a success. I'm very excited about this and look forward to trying other foods.

Paxine

The other day I was over at my parents house and Pax had a blow out that got all over his clothes. So, I got the spare outfit (that I always have on hand because this is a frequent occurrence for us) out of the diaper bag and got him cleaned up and re-dressed. About an hour later, he had another blow out that got all over the new outfit. Fortunately, my mom still has a box full of some of our old baby clothes so I decided to put Pax in one of my old onesies and added a bow just to get the full effect.

Back to being a cute little boy. I'm sure over the years our kids will wish I didn't get such a kick out of things that come at other people's expense, especially when it's at their's.

Haircut #2

Over Labor Day weekend Pax got his second haircut. When we had his hair cut the first time, we asked the woman who was cutting it to leave it fairly long. As a result, it wasn't too long before Pax's hair was hanging in his eyes again. Here is the before shot.

This is me trying to get Pax to hold his head still by letting him suck on a piece of melon.

After. We're always hesitant to cut his hair but always so glad we did afterwards. With his hair a little shorter we can see his cute face better.

Lake Tahoe

Our families seem to like scheduling family reunions on back to back weekends. So the weekend after we got home from Bear Lake, we were back at the airport heading out on another fun vacation to Lake Tahoe. About ten seconds after we took this picture we got in trouble for having Pax on the x-ray belt.
These two were a lot more interactive with each other this trip. We think they're going to become such good buds over the years.
Pax was fascinated by Tula's headbands, he couldn't keep his little paws off them!

Sand makes for a nice soft landing.

Bear Lake 2009

Pax getting ready for his very first flight.

Our annual trip to Bear Lake with Jas's family was a blast as usual. The weather was a little on the chilly side but we still had fun on the beach, in the water (those who were much braver than me), and in our condo hanging out.

The flight home. Pax loved being able to look out the window.
